The Era of Gwangjin-gu New Office Begins!...Is This the Second Prime of Gwangjin?

"I have lived in this neighborhood for a long time, but I never dreamed it would change like this. The area around Guui Station has been completely transformed."

These are the words of a resident of Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu.

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is relocating its district office. As part of the Jayang 1 Redevelopment Promotion Zone redevelopment project, a new integrated Gwangjin-gu Office building with 18 floors has been constructed.

The Jayang 1 Redevelopment Promotion Zone complex development project is located at 680-63 Jayang-dong and is connected to Guui Station on Subway Line 2. Covering an area of 78,119㎡, it includes the Gwangjin-gu Office building (18 floors), office facilities (31 floors), hotel and officetel (34 floors), and residential apartments (26 to 48 floors). This has created a cutting-edge mixed-use complex combining administration, residential, business, cultural, and commercial facilities.

The original Gwangjin-gu Office building was constructed over 60 years ago as a Republican Party training center. It was used as the Seongdong-gu Office in 1976 and became the Gwangjin-gu Office in 1995 when Seongdong-gu was divided. The cramped office space and outdated facilities caused inconvenience not only to visiting residents but also to staff.

The newly opened office is located at 870 Jayang-dong (400 Achasan-ro) with a total floor area of 37,685㎡. At 18 floors high, it prioritizes residents' convenience. The first floor houses a book caf?, kids’ zone, and exhibition space. The second floor is designed as an integrated civil service center frequently visited by residents, including passport, transportation, tax, land registry, and housing services. The second basement floor is a future technology experience center linked with advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics, and a park facility has been created in the plaza to serve as a leisure space for residents.

The district office is currently preparing for the move. From the 18th, a total of 38 departments, including the mayor’s office, will relocate in three phases by May 18. Moving will be done outside business hours or on weekends to ensure no disruption to work during the relocation period. Efforts are being made to promote the move in advance to prevent residents from making unnecessary trips, and shuttle buses will operate to facilitate transportation.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "With the Jayang 1 Redevelopment Promotion Zone project, the area around Guui Station will be reborn as a large-scale cutting-edge mixed-use complex for administration, residence, business, culture, and commerce, ushering in a 'Gwangjin Renaissance.' This year marks the 30th anniversary of Gwangjin-gu’s establishment and the first year of Gwangjin’s reinvention. Building on the achievements of the 8th elected term, we will definitely bring about changes that residents can feel."
