This report meeting was organized to review key economic indicators such as the number of employed persons, employment rate, and consumer prices, and based on this, to share policies for stabilizing people’s livelihoods and to strengthen measures to revitalize the stagnant local economy.
Since last year, Gwangju City has been focusing on core tasks through public-private cooperation based on the 'Closely and Thoroughly Nearby!' local economy revitalization campaign.
The core tasks include ▲strengthening purchases linked to public construction, goods and service contracts, departmental purchases, national projects, and large private construction projects (promoting purchases from local businesses) ▲timely support of development funds and expansion of companies registered on 'Gwangju e-Market' (supporting SMEs and small business owners) ▲expansion of local currency issuance (promoting consumption) ▲activation of direct sales outlets such as the Natural Chae Food Farm Center (expanding sales channels for agricultural products), among others.
In addition, the city operates a monthly 'Public Officials Dining Day' to encourage the use of reasonably priced restaurants and alleyway commercial districts, and regularly inspects policy implementation on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
Especially at this report meeting, additional measures were discussed to recover the local economy, including ▲promoting consumption by small business owners through inducement of local currency charging ▲actively promoting local economic publicity strategies ▲stimulating consumption through linkage with local festivals and events ▲creating jobs for vulnerable groups ▲expanding purchases of local products such as self-support production items ▲and prompt execution of consumption and investment projects.
As major policies to be promoted in the future, Gwangju City plans to encourage participation of citizens and small business owners through ▲meetings to promote local companies’ products with apartment construction companies ▲designation of alley-type shopping districts ▲providing a 10% cashback for payments over 100,000 won on the Gwangju Love Card ▲supporting discount coupon costs for companies registered on Gwangju e-Market ▲and support for building Gyeonggi Province-type smart factories.
Mayor Bang Se-hwan said, "We will do our best not only to revitalize the economy through local festivals such as the Gwangju Royal Porcelain Festival, Toechon Tomato Festival, Namhansanseong Cultural Festival, and Forest Expo, but also to continuously discover various policies that citizens and small business owners can truly feel and to prepare practical measures for the recovery of the local economy."
