The government will conduct a joint crackdown on illegal foreign residents for 77 days starting from the 14th.
On the 9th, the Ministry of Justice announced that in the third year of implementing the 'Five-Year Plan to Reduce Illegal Stay (2023?2027),' it will carry out a joint government crackdown from the 14th to June 29th together with the National Police Agency, Ministry of Employment and Labor, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Korea Coast Guard.
The main focus areas for the crackdown are foreign crimes that threaten public safety such as drugs and stolen cars, industries that encroach on national jobs such as construction and parcel delivery, and immigration-related offenses including illegal entry and employment brokerage.
If illegal stay or illegal brokerage activities are detected, measures such as fines, forced deportation, and entry bans will be imposed. If the crackdown is refused without justifiable reason, a warrant will be issued and enforced, and obstruction of official duties will be prosecuted.
The Ministry of Justice plans to strictly follow legal procedures during the crackdown and make every effort to protect the human rights of foreigners. Acting Minister of Justice Kim Seok-woo said, "The foundation of immigration and immigration policies that the public can trust and sympathize with comes from establishing strict residence order," adding, "We will continue to consistently pursue policies to reduce illegal stay, including crackdowns."
