A Chinese woman who earned hundreds of millions of won annually by lecturing women on how to marry wealthy men has been fined 7.58 million yuan (approximately 1.5 billion KRW) for tax evasion.
On the 7th (local time), Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that Luo Chanquan, famous as the "McKinsey of relationships," was fined after a tax evasion investigation by the Chinese State Taxation Administration. Luo is known in China for providing lectures related to dating and marriage. She is reported to earn 142 million yuan (about 28.4 billion KRW) annually.

Luo has claimed that "marriage should be used as a strategic tool to improve social and economic status" and has provided related consulting. The cheapest online lecture package, called "Valuable Relationships," consists of 24 sessions and costs 3,580 yuan (about 710,000 KRW). This package is described as helping clients master the social, romantic, and financial aspects of relationships. Luo's online live one-on-one consultation fee is 1,143 yuan (about 220,000 KRW) per session, and her personal coaching package reportedly costs over 10,000 yuan (about 2 million KRW) per month.
Local media criticized Luo's 2023 lectures for promoting harmful relationships between men and women and spreading misleading values. After the reports, Luo Chanquan was banned from several social networking service (SNS) platforms and expanded her business into a more private domain. She raised the membership fee for her private membership program "Girlfriend Alliance" to 199,800 yuan (about 40 million KRW) and made the joining process more stringent by requiring an interview for admission.
Although Luo announced that her personal income over the past two years was 600,000 yuan (about 120 million KRW), it was revealed to be significantly different from her actual earnings. The Shanghai Tax Bureau used big data to uncover discrepancies in her tax filings and ordered Luo to pay a total of 7.58 million yuan (about 1.515 billion KRW) in back taxes, late fees, and fines.
Luo bowed her head, saying, "I deeply recognize the negative impact I have on society," and added, "I will take this issue as a lesson, comply with business regulations, and pay taxes according to the law." Upon hearing this news, local netizens responded with comments such as "She should be severely punished," "She should also be held accountable for inciting social conflict," "She is instilling wrong views on dating and marriage to women," "Making a fortune from such lectures," and "Please do not spend money on places like that."
