Seoul St. Mary's Hospital-Puzzle AI, MOU for AI Medical Record System Construction

Smart Hospitals Become a Reality with Voice-Driven Records
Enhancing Patient Experience, Reducing Staff Workload

Seoul St. Mary's Hospital announced on the 9th that it signed an agreement on the 7th to establish an AI medical record system with the AI healthcare startup Puzzle AI.

Seoul St. Mary's Hospital-Puzzle AI, MOU for AI Medical Record System Construction Seoul St. Mary's Hospital signed an agreement on the 7th at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital in Seocho-gu, Seoul, with the AI healthcare startup Puzzle AI to develop a "full-cycle generative medical record." Seoul St. Mary's Hospital is evaluated to have laid the groundwork for building a generative medical record system based on this agreement. The Voice EMR (Voice Electronic Medical Record) system, developed and operated together with Puzzle AI since 2019, has focused on "transcription through voice recognition" and has been widely used in interpretation sites such as imaging, pathology, and diagnostic tests. However, to apply it to all fields within the medical site, the development of a generative method that automatically creates the necessary medical record forms for each field was needed.

The upcoming full-cycle generative medical record system will be based on a deep learning voice recognition model specialized in medical terminology. Developed based on a large amount of medical voice data, the model includes various functions such as noise filtering, speaker separation, and voice security, and is known to have technology that achieves a high recognition rate of over 95% even in medical environments where Korean and English are mixed.

Previously, doctors and nurses had to enter medical records collectively after treating patients in wards. It was inevitable to spend considerable time on input tasks to prevent any omissions or delays in records. However, the medical community agrees that if a highly accurate voice recognition system is well utilized, it can reduce unnecessary tasks for medical staff in clinical settings and contribute to patient-centered treatment.

If an average of 150 words per minute can be recorded, the speed of medical record writing can be increased about fivefold compared to physical typing. In the nursing field, real-time voice recording is possible while performing nursing or treatment in the ward, which also has the advantage of allowing full concentration on communication with patients.

Seoul St. Mary's Hospital and Puzzle AI aim to apply the generative AI medical record service on-site within this year. First, two pilot wards will be selected to develop generative medical records that can perform all nursing activities on-site, and it is known that they will work to improve nurses' tasks.

Once the system is fully operational, it is expected that medical record forms can be generated by voice commands even in emergency rooms requiring urgent responses, operating rooms and intensive care units requiring infection control, and other areas.

Yoon Seung-gyu, director of Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, said, "We are pleased to sign a business agreement with Puzzle AI, which boasts outstanding competitiveness in the voice-based electronic medical record field," adding, "We will not only secure vast amounts of data but also reduce the burden on medical staff exhausted by the medical strike and provide an environment where they can focus on patients in the medical field."

Kim Yong-sik, CEO of Puzzle AI, said, "As Seoul St. Mary's Hospital is the best smart hospital in Korea, we will work together to develop innovative services that help both medical staff and patients."
