The newly erected monument stands at 33-1 Changchon-ri, Ilbanseong-myeon, near the site where the independence movement took place in 1919. It was built with a residents' participatory budget of 40 million won to honor the significance of the local independence movement and the patriotism of the community.

The Independence Movement at Bansung Market on April 3, 1919, was a local independence movement in which residents from five eastern districts voluntarily participated, taking place during the nationwide spread of the March 1st Movement. The construction of this monument is expected to help pass down the spirit of the independence movement to future generations and enhance the pride of the local community.

At the event, Kim Jeompo, chairperson of the monument construction committee, expressed his gratitude to Jinju City, saying, "I am pleased that the construction of this monument provides an opportunity to widely publicize the historical facts of our region related to the independence movement and to carry forward the noble intentions of our forebears who practiced patriotism."

Mayor Cho Gyu-il of Jinju stated, "The meaning is even greater as the monument was built with the collective will of the residents," and added, "We will continue to make various efforts to preserve the historical value of our region and pass it on to future generations."
