Hong Joon-pyo, the mayor of Daegu, stated that he will ask for a binary choice between himself and Lee Jae-myung, rather than the conventional regime change or regime continuation.
On the 8th, Mayor Hong Joon-pyo conveyed this message through his Facebook, saying, "If the National Assembly's rampage is followed by the executive branch's rampage, this country has no future."
Mayor Hong said, "If the rampage continues any further, this country will become Hitler's nation," and added, "This country has experienced a period of national turmoil over the past three years due to the Banghooljijang (蚌鷸之爭)."
Banghooljijang refers to 'the conflict between a sandpiper and a clam, both caught by a fisherman,' and is interpreted as a metaphor comparing former President Yoon Seok-youl and Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who competed in the last presidential election, to the sandpiper and the clam respectively.
He continued, "Now that the sandpiper has left, the clam should naturally leave as well. It is our citizens' turn to become the fisherman," adding, "This is the theory of jointly settling accounts through Banghooljijang (蚌鷸之爭), Eobujiri (漁父之利), and Dongbanchungsanron (同伴淸算論)."
Meanwhile, Hong Joon-pyo, mayor of Daegu, plans to officially announce his presidential candidacy after his retirement ceremony on the 11th. According to Yonhap News Agency, at the executive meeting held on the 7th, Mayor Hong expressed his intention to "do his best to seize the opportunity to personally oversee key pending projects" and indicated that if elected president, he would attend to regional issues.
