"Evolving into a Comprehensive Investment Firm Focused on the Essence of Investment"
FuturePlay is transitioning from the existing dual CEO system of Ryu Jung-hee and Kwon Oh-hyung to a sole CEO system under Kwon Oh-hyung.
On the 8th, FuturePlay stated, "The transition to a sole CEO system is a strategic decision aimed at enabling faster and more flexible decision-making and execution, allowing us to respond more proactively to the changing market environment and enhance long-term corporate value."
Founded in 2013, FuturePlay is an investment firm that has closely supported startups from their early stages through growth. After obtaining a venture capital (VC) license in 2022, it began expanding its scale in earnest. Its assets under management (AUM) have increased by more than 170 billion KRW over the past two years, reaching 277 billion KRW as of January this year.
Currently, FuturePlay invests in startups across various fields with global growth potential, including technology, entertainment, platforms, and lifestyle. Beyond simple financial support, it provides close support throughout all stages of a company's growth, including ▲business strategy development ▲talent acquisition ▲global expansion.
CEO Kwon marks his 10th year with FuturePlay this year. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the United States, worked at Deloitte Boston and its Vietnam office, and was an early member of Finomial, a fintech SaaS (Software as a Service) company acquired by SCI Investment Company, a Nasdaq-listed firm. In 2015, he officially joined FuturePlay through a public recruitment process and took charge of investment management in the investment group.
So far, CEO Kwon has established a performance-based investment system and played a leading role in transforming FuturePlay’s identity from an accelerator (AC)-focused firm to a comprehensive AC and VC after being appointed co-CEO in 2022.
CEO Kwon said, "FuturePlay aims to be the best partner for startups by working with innovative startups that can become global leaders in various fields such as technology, content, and platforms, providing comprehensive support from pre-startup to scale-up stages. We will actively create a new future through this organizational restructuring."
Meanwhile, Ryu Jung-hee, the founder and former CEO of FuturePlay, will focus on revitalizing the startup ecosystem and discovering new fields as a venture partner of FuturePlay. Based on his identity as an entrepreneur, he also plans to dedicate efforts to technological innovation and creating social impact.
