Gyeonggi Province is set to advance its air quality diagnosis and evaluation system.
On the 8th, the Gyeonggi-do Institute of Health and Environment announced that it will hold a kickoff meeting for the "Air Quality Diagnosis and Evaluation System Advancement Project" on the 9th in the institute's main conference room.
The Gyeonggi Province air quality diagnosis and evaluation system was introduced in 2019 to diagnose and evaluate the causes of high-concentration air pollution occurrences within the province and to analyze the effects of air policy implementation.
This project is the first to be undertaken since the system was established in 2022, focusing on improving the existing system's performance and developing and introducing a neighborhood air quality information provision function.
The Institute of Health and Environment plans to complete this project by the end of the year and operate the improved system starting in 2026.
Hwang Chan-won, head of the Climate and Air Research Department at the Gyeonggi-do Institute of Health and Environment, stated, "As occurrences of high-concentration fine dust and ozone become more frequent these days, the air quality diagnosis and evaluation system plays an important role in the policy decision-making process by diagnosing the causes of high-concentration air pollution and providing basic data necessary for establishing air environment policies." He added, "We will do our best to ensure a substantial advancement project by fully reflecting the experts' opinions shared at the kickoff meeting."
