Venerable Uihyeon, Head Monk of Donghwasa, and Archbishop Cho Hwan-gil of the Catholic Church Each Donate 100 Million Won for Wildfire Relief

Barugesalgi Gyeongbuk Council Joins the Effort
Delivers Relief Supplies Worth 30 Million KRW

Gyeongbuk Province received a donation of 100 million KRW from Venerable Imdam Uihyeon, the head monk of Donghwasa Temple, Palgong Chongnim, the 9th district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, on the 7th to support the recovery from the recent large-scale wildfire damage in Gyeongbuk.


At the donation ceremony, Venerable Imdam Uihyeon and related officials from Donghwasa Temple, Palgong Chongnim, attended to share warmth and compassion for the residents who suffered pain and loss due to the wildfire.

This donation was prepared to support the swift recovery and safety of local residents affected by the recent massive wildfire in Gyeongbuk.


Venerable Imdam Uihyeon stated, "I hope this donation brings some comfort and help to the residents struggling from the wildfire damage," and added, "I sincerely pray that the affected areas will be restored as soon as possible and that the residents can quickly regain stability in their lives."


Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheolwoo expressed his gratitude, saying, "I deeply appreciate the kindness shown during these difficult times," and added, "We will focus all our administrative capabilities to ensure that this valuable donation is used effectively for recovery and support of the affected residents."


The Daegu Archdiocese of the Catholic Church also donated 100 million KRW on the same day to support wildfire recovery efforts.

At the donation ceremony, Archbishop Cho Hwangil (Thaddeus) of the Daegu Archdiocese and related officials attended, joining in a meaningful event to share warmth and compassion for the residents who suffered pain and loss due to the wildfire.


Archbishop Cho Hwangil (Thaddeus) said, "I sincerely hope that this donation, though small, will bring comfort and help to the residents affected by the wildfire," and added, "I earnestly pray that the affected areas will be restored soon so that the residents can return to a peaceful and stable daily life."


Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheolwoo stated, "I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Daegu Archdiocese of the Catholic Church for their kindness during these difficult times," and added, "We will focus all our administrative capabilities to ensure that the valuable donation is fully used for wildfire recovery and support for the victims."


Meanwhile, Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to use the donations received this time for the recovery of wildfire-affected areas and livelihood support for the affected residents. The province will continue to make every effort for recovery and provide ongoing support so that the residents can return to normal life as soon as possible.


The Gyeongbuk Provincial Council of the Barugesalgi Movement (President Kim Jaewon), together with 22 city and county councils in the province, demonstrated community spirit by launching swift recovery support activities. The council mobilized a total of about 700 people from March 22 to April 7, immediately after the wildfire, to volunteer in various fields such as providing meals at shelters, cleaning, and delivering relief supplies, and also donated relief goods worth about 30 million KRW.

This activity saw voluntary participation from councils in Uiseong County, Andong City, Cheongsong County, Yeongyang County, Yeongdeok County, Pohang City, Chilgok County, Bonghwa County, Gyeongsan City, Yeongcheon City, and others. Councils from other regions, such as Gyeonggi Province and Daejeon City, also joined in, demonstrating the power of solidarity.


In particular, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council independently provided kimchi (worth 1 million KRW) on March 25 and wet wipes (worth 2.2 million KRW) on March 27. The Chilgok County and Pohang City councils also contributed by supplying towels, socks, underwear, and other items, helping to alleviate practical inconveniences for the affected residents.


The Gyeongsangbuk-do Council of the Barugesalgi Movement stated, "All our members worked together with one heart to ease the pain of the wildfire victims as much as possible," and added, "We will continue to be the Barugesalgi Movement that is the first to rush to the scene and offer a helping hand whenever a disaster occurs."
