Fire Extinguished in an Hour and a Half

At 9:28 a.m. on the 7th, a fire broke out at the demolition site of Korea East-West Power Honam Power Plant Headquarters within the Yeosu National Industrial Complex in Wonnae-dong, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do.

The fire occurred during the dismantling of desulfurization equipment. Flames and thick smoke rose from the site for a time, but the fire was completely extinguished by the responding fire authorities at 10:56 a.m.


According to the company, four workers were present at the site during the fire, but all evacuated quickly and there were no casualties.


The equipment that caught fire was an old thermal power facility that had been in operation for over 40 years. It had ceased operations at the end of 2021 and was in the process of being dismantled as part of its closure procedure.


The fire authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and the exact scale of the damage by questioning those involved at the site.
