Four live bullets were found in a trash can at the departure hall of Incheon International Airport Terminal 2, prompting the police to launch an investigation.

According to the Incheon Airport Police Unit on the 6th, at around 8 a.m. on the 1st, a cleaner discovered four live bullets in a trash can on the 3rd floor departure hall of Incheon Airport Terminal 2 and reported it to the police. The location where the bullets were found is the so-called "Land Side," an area within the airport where entry and movement are unrestricted.

The police who arrived at the scene identified the bullets as 5.56mm rifle rounds. They reviewed nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage but have not yet identified who discarded the bullets.

A police official stated, "Due to the distance between the CCTV recording location and the trash can, it is difficult to identify the suspect."

Previously, on March 24 last year, a 9mm caliber hunting live bullet was found on a Korean Air passenger plane preparing to depart from Incheon Airport to Milan, Italy. An employee cleaning the cabin before departure found the bullet under a passenger seat and reported it. The police conducted a thorough security search of the aircraft but did not find any other dangerous items.

On March 15, 2023, at around 6:26 p.m., 100 rounds of .22 caliber pistol ammunition were discovered in the luggage of a man traveling from Washington DC to Mongolia via Terminal 2 of Incheon Airport.

On March 10, 2023, two 9mm pistol live bullets were found on a Korean Air passenger plane departing from Incheon Airport to Manila, Philippines, and on the 16th of the same month, one live bullet was found in a trash can at the departure hall of Terminal 1.

Meanwhile, from 2021 to 2023, a total of 10 firearms, 890 live ammunition items, 31 bladed weapons, and 931 dangerous items such as electronic shock devices were seized at domestic airports.

According to data received last year by National Assembly member Yoon Jong-gun from Incheon International Airport Corporation and Korea Airports Corporation, 10 cases of firearms were seized at Incheon Airport, while live ammunition seizures numbered 711 at Incheon Airport and 179 at airports under the jurisdiction of Korea Airports Corporation. Cases included the seizure of cartridge cases, magazines, firearm bolts and gas regulators, and even live bullets.
