[Impeachment of Yoon Seok-yeol] 7 out of 10 People Say "Yoon Should Refrain During the Presidential Election Period"

First 'Research View' Poll Conducted After Dismissal Ruling

In the first public opinion poll conducted after the dismissal ruling of former President Yoon Seok-yeol, 7 out of 10 people said that the former president should refrain from political activities during the early presidential election phase.


According to 'Research View,' a professional polling agency, a survey was conducted on April 4 with 1,000 respondents nationwide aged 18 and older. Among the total respondents, 68.6% answered that former President Yoon, who is the 'party responsible for causing a national crisis,' should refrain from political activities during the early presidential election. On the other hand, 20.6% responded that he should intervene in the election while appealing the unfairness of his dismissal.


52.2% of respondents said they would 'accept' the Constitutional Court's dismissal decision. However, 4 out of 10 said they would not accept it.


Regarding the political situation after the impeachment, 56.9% responded that it would 'stabilize,' while 40.6% said it would become 'chaotic.' By political inclination, conservatives predicted stabilization at 25.8% and chaos at 72.3%. Progressives saw 83.2% stabilization and 15.8% chaos, while moderates showed 66.4% stabilization and 30.2% chaos.

When asked about the zeitgeist of the 21st presidential election held due to the presidential impeachment, the largest share, 23.8%, answered 'clearing out the deep-rooted evils of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration.' This was followed by 'cooperation and national unity' (20.8%), 'overcoming the economic crisis' (18.6%), and 'establishing the rule of law' (10.8%).


In the suitability survey for the Democratic Party presidential candidates, Representative Lee Jae-myung ranked first with 48.9%. Former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum followed with 8.1%, and Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon came next with 7.5%.


In the People Power Party, Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo had the highest rating at 18.6%. Former People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min followed with 14.4%, and former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon was at 10.3%. Others included Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo at 9.1%, People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo at 6.2%, and Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon at 5.8%.


This survey was conducted using an ARS automated response system targeting mobile phone subscribers (RDD mobile phones 100%). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and the response rate was 3.8%.
