324 Participants Compete in 37 Trades
at 10 Venues Including Gwangju Technical High School Until the 11th
Gwangju City announced on the 6th that it will hold the "2025 Gwangju Skills Competition" for five days from the 7th to the 11th at ten venues, including Gwangju Technical High School.
The Skills Competition is hosted by Gwangju City and organized by the Gwangju Skills Competition Committee (Gwangju Regional Headquarters of the Human Resources Development Service of Korea), with support from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, Human Resources Development Service of Korea, Hwacheon Machinery Co., Ltd., and others.
This year's competition will see 324 participants competing fiercely in 37 trades, including mold making, welding, and mobile robotics. Participants include students from specialized high schools in the region, Meister high schools, vocational training institutions, universities, and the general public. Each venue has been designated to match the practical, trade-specific environment. In particular, categories such as industrial drone control, industrial control, and cloud computing reflect the trends in local technical education in response to technological changes.
Winners of the competition will receive certificates, prize money, and medals. The top three winners will also be granted the right to participate in the 60th National Skills Competition, which will be held in Gwangju this September. In addition, benefits related to national technical qualifications, such as exemption from the craftsman qualification exam and eligibility to take the written exam for industrial engineer certification, will also be provided.
The city plans to use this competition to strengthen the capabilities of local skilled talent and focus on operating a well-organized event that will serve as a preliminary round for the national competition to be held in Gwangju this September. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Gwangju Skills Competition Committee.
Lee Gyedu, Director of Labor and Employment Policy, said, "This competition will be an important opportunity to promote the skills of local young technicians who will lead future industries and to recognize their efforts," adding, "We hope many citizens will visit the competition and cheer on the participants."
Meanwhile, the 60th National Skills Competition will be held from September 20 to 26 at six venues, including the Kim Daejung Convention Center in Gwangju, with about 1,800 participants competing in 51 trades, including industrial drone control.
