Jangseong to Welcome 34,000 Visitors for Jeonnam Sports Festival and Para Sports Festival

Jangseong Welcomes Sports Festivals and Tourists
A Golden Opportunity for Local Economic Recovery

Jangseong County in Jeollanam-do is busy preparing to welcome guests as it hosts the Jeonnam Sports Festival and the Jeonnam Para Sports Festival. The county expects that around 34,000 athletes and spectators will visit Jangseong during the two events.

According to Jangseong County on the 5th, the 64th Jeonnam Sports Festival will be held over four days from the 18th to the 21st. Competitions in 23 sports, including track and field, soccer, table tennis, ssireum, and badminton, will take place throughout Jangseong. The first event, golf (at Pureunsol GC), will be held on the 17th, a day before the official opening, and the final event will be the soccer finals at the main stadium on the afternoon of the 21st.

The 33rd Jeonnam Para Sports Festival will take place from the 30th to the 2nd of next month. A total of 21 sports, including billiards, rowing, taekwondo, and dance sports, will be contested, with the first event being a billiards match at Munhyang High School.

The county expects about 7,000 athletes and 15,000 spectators to attend the Jeonnam Sports Festival alone, and with the Para Sports Festival included, a total of 34,000 visitors are anticipated to come to Jangseong.

This year’s sports festivals coincide with the ‘Year of Visiting Jangseong,’ and are expected to invigorate local tourism and the economy. The county has designated April and May as ‘Months of Visiting Jangseong’ and is running various tourism programs, including events where visitors can certify their use of restaurants and accommodations.

County Governor Kim Hanjong said, “We expect even more visitors as the events are linked with local festivals such as the ‘Growth Jangseong Rock Festival’ and the ‘Hwangryonggang Gildongmu Flower Road Festival’ in May,” adding, “We will thoroughly prepare to ensure the sports festivals become an opportunity for the local economy to recover.”
