This briefing session was organized to provide detailed information to residents about the on-street parking lot construction project aimed at alleviating the severe parking shortage in the single-family housing area of Pangyo-dong 25th district, and to gather various local opinions.
Seongnam City initially planned to build an underground public parking lot on the site of Pangyo Park (Pangyo-dong 553), but due to concerns from local residents about environmental damage, the plan was shifted to constructing an on-street parking lot around Pangyo Park-ro (595-3) as an alternative.
During the residents' briefing session, detailed explanations were provided regarding major aspects of the project, including changes to sidewalks and roadways due to the on-street parking lot construction, removal of street trees, and abolition of the bicycle path.
In particular, addressing residents' concerns about the abolition of the bicycle path, Seongnam City stated, “Before abolishing the bicycle path, we will thoroughly conduct traffic volume surveys and collect residents' opinions, and expand the sidewalk width up to 2.5 meters to ensure pedestrian convenience.”
Seongnam City plans to commence the basic and detailed design services in April, and after undergoing reviews and consultations with related departments such as urban forest creation and management review, and approval of the implementation plan (modification), aims to complete construction by December this year. The city will continue to strive to make this public infrastructure beneficial to both the city and its residents through ongoing communication with citizens.
A Seongnam City official said, “This on-street parking lot construction project is an important foundational project to resolve the severe parking shortage in the Pangyo-dong 25th district and to correct traffic environment and order caused by illegal parking,” adding, “We will continue to fully reflect residents' diverse opinions to create safe and efficient parking spaces.”
