The development project of 'Incheon Museum Park,' the first complex cultural facility in South Korea, is gaining momentum.
On the 4th, Incheon City announced that the Incheon Museum Park development project has passed the final local finance central investment review by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The central investment review evaluates the feasibility and financial plan adequacy of local finance projects with a total budget exceeding 30 billion KRW. With the approval of this review, the construction of Incheon Museum Park is expected to proceed in earnest.
Incheon Museum Park will be built on a total floor area of 38,889㎡ in the Yonghyeon-Hakik 1 Block urban development project area in Hakik-dong, Michuhol-gu, consisting of one basement floor and two above-ground floors. It will be the first complex cultural and artistic platform in South Korea, integrating an art gallery, museum, and art park into a single complex. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year, with an opening targeted for 2028.
The city plans to relocate and expand the current municipal museum, located in Okryeon-dong, Yeonsu-gu, to a newly constructed building within the Museum Park.
Incheon opened the Incheon Municipal Art Hall, the first municipal art gallery in a provincial city, in 1946. However, the art gallery was closed amid the post-liberation turmoil, and since then, the city has not operated a municipal art gallery. Among special and metropolitan cities such as Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon, and Ulsan, Incheon is the only city without a municipal art gallery.
