‘Safety Emphasis Week’ Campaign Held on the 4th of Every Month
Inspections of Disaster-Prone Areas and Promotion of Safety Accident Prevention Ahead of Forest Fires and Thawing Season
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will conduct the 'April Safety Inspection Day' campaign to prevent safety accidents in preparation for forest fires and to raise residents' safety awareness in observance of Safety Inspection Day (the 4th of every month).
From the first week, which includes Safety Inspection Day, through the second week of every month’s ‘Safety Emphasis Week,’ each neighborhood community center will promote safety accident prevention together with voluntary disaster prevention groups and safety security officers.
Each month, a promotional theme is selected such as wind and flood damage, heat waves, cold waves, and snow removal. The theme for April is ‘Inspection of disaster-vulnerable facilities in preparation for forest fires, recreational seasons, and thawing periods, and prevention of safety accidents.’
The district distributes promotional materials to residents that include forest fire prevention tips and instructions on how to use the Safety Report App to detect and report hazards in daily life in advance. Additionally, each neighborhood autonomously selects and inspects disaster-vulnerable areas such as mountains, parks, retaining walls and stone walls, construction sites, multi-use facilities, and residential areas.
In particular, to prevent forest fires, the Forest Fire Specialized Prevention and Suppression Team will strengthen on-site patrols, and enforcement officers will crack down on cooking activities, possession of flammable materials, and smoking within forest areas. Drones will be used efficiently to prevent forest fires, and forest fire extinguishing facilities (water curtain towers) will be installed in vulnerable areas.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "With recent disasters such as the largest-ever forest fires and sinkholes, safety management has become more important than ever," adding, "We will thoroughly inspect safety-vulnerable facilities in advance and promote safety rules to create a safe Geumcheon for residents."
Meanwhile, the district will conduct intensive safety inspections for two months from April 14 to June 13. Joint inspections will be carried out with experts in fire, electricity, and gas fields targeting facilities with high risks of fire or various disasters, such as automobile repair shops without fire detectors, underground multi-use establishments, and nursing facilities with inpatient rooms on three or more floors.
Furthermore, until April 30, the district is accepting reports of facilities subject to intensive safety inspections via the Safety Report App or portal. During the intensive safety inspection period, self-inspection checklists will be distributed to encourage self-inspections.
