On Truth Social: "The Patient Will Be Much Stronger"
First Related Remarks After Announcing Mutual Tariffs
On the 3rd (local time), the day after U.S. President Donald Trump launched a mutual tariff bombardment against the entire world, he announced that "the surgery is over" and that the U.S. economy will become even stronger.
President Trump said on his social networking service (SNS) Truth Social, which he created, "The patient has survived and is healing."
He wrote, "The prognosis is that the patient will be much stronger, bigger, better, and more resilient than ever before," along with his campaign slogan, "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
This is interpreted as likening America to a 'patient' and mutual tariffs to 'surgery,' expressing his determination to lead the recovery and reconstruction of the ailing U.S. economy through tariff policies.
The day before, President Trump announced at the White House Rose Garden that he would impose mutual tariffs of at least 10% on all trading countries worldwide. After imposing a basic tariff of 10% on all countries, he plans to review each country's tariff and non-tariff barriers and impose a '10% + α' tariff on so-called 'worst offender' countries deemed to have high trade barriers. South Korea, among the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) partner countries, was subjected to the highest tariff of 25%.
In his speech the previous day, President Trump criticized, "For decades, we have been plundered by all countries, whether near or far, friend or foe," and said, "Other countries have imposed huge tariffs on American products and created non-monetary (non-tariff) barriers that have destroyed our industries." He then emphasized, "That will no longer happen. Now it is our turn to prosper."
