‘Dual Brain’ Claims First Place at Kyobo Bookstore
Author Kim Young-ha's new essay collection, Dan Han Beon-ui Salm (A Single Life), released after six years, ranked first on the Yes24 comprehensive bestseller list for the first week of April, maintaining the top spot for two consecutive weeks.
Dual Brain by AI expert Lee Seon Molik held onto second place following last week. This week's sales increased by 10.9% compared to the previous week (March 20?26).
Author Kim Jong-won's 100 Days of Transcription to Fill the Dignity of Adulthood took third place, while Han Kang's The Boy is Coming, translated and published in over 20 countries captivating readers worldwide, ranked fourth. The book Reading Skills Class That Creates a Super Gap in Grades, which compiles Daechi-dong reading education methods, secured fifth place.
New picture books by leading illustrators from Korea and Japan were also featured on the bestseller list. Shin Suke Yoshitake, known as a "genius of ideas," released his new work Starry Job Counseling Center, which addresses the essence of work with his unique insight, ranking ninth overall and first in the children's category. Additionally, Annyeongdal, beloved for her distinctive imagination and brilliant sensitivity, celebrated her 10th anniversary with the new picture book To the Stars, ranking 16th overall and first in the toddler category.
Books that help strengthen "mental muscle" also attracted attention. Professor Kim Joo-hwan's Inner Communication Meditation Class, which offers meditation practices to build mental strength in daily life, ranked seventh overall. Another new release by the same author, Grit GRIT, returned as a fully revised edition after 12 years, placing 15th.
Manga artist Wayama Yama, who sparked the "Wayama Yama syndrome" with Let's Go Karaoke! and has a solid domestic fandom, returned with Girls' School Star 4. The popular series Girls' School Star came back after about two years, and its new volume Girls' School Star 4 secured 11th place overall just one day after starting pre-orders on the 2nd.
According to Yes24's data, people in their 20s accounted for 57.3% of the buyers, with women in their 20s making up 56.3%, showing overwhelming support. Sakamoto Days 20 debuted at fourth place overall upon release. Botchi the Rock! 7 and Two People Smoking Behind 5 entered the list at 13th and 14th places respectively. It is analyzed that limited edition and special edition merchandise influenced purchases.
In the humanities category, Kim Joo-hwan's Inner Communication Meditation Class ranked seventh overall upon release. The movement of readers in their 30s and 40s seeking psychological stability through meditation is noticeable. Additionally, Yoo Hyun-joon's Space Human rose 11 places to 23rd overall.
