Kim Taeheum, Governor of Chungnam, said, "The Citizen Participation Forest was initiated with the idea of making Hongye Park a landmark that we can proudly pass on to future generations, just like Central Park in New York," adding, "Right now, the trees are young and there may be areas that are not fully planted, but if we nurture them well and complete the civil engineering and installation of sculptures, it will become a wonderful sight."
He continued, "We plan to expand the park to Yongbongsan, Suamsan, and the provincial government complex, and to include various cultural facilities such as an art museum, arts center, and kids park," emphasizing, "We will create a park where culture and art are alive and breathe, harmonizing with nature, and a landmark that enriches the quality of life."
The Citizen Participation Forest is being promoted as part of the Hongye Park premium project, with plans to plant over 1,000 trees in Hongye Park and install sculptures, landscaping facilities, and playgrounds using donations from individuals, institutions, and organizations.
Based on the existing terrain and facilities, the plan is to enhance the characteristics of three zones: Byeolbit Jamiwon, Hongye Hills, and Family Park, and to create cafes, waterfront trails, and specialized theme gardens.
In the Byeolbit Jamiwon zone, paths for enjoying waterfront activities, walking on water, walking along the water's edge, and walking under water will be installed, along with hydrangea gardens and wildflower gardens in the surrounding area.
Hongye Hills will feature Hongye Madang, a space for performances and exhibitions by residents, walking trails, and Hongye Shelter, which offers a view of Naepo New Town. In Family Park, there will be Suam Waterfall, Suam Stream, a Water Pool Lounge, and Adventure Forest with a greenhouse, creating a complex playground for the whole family to enjoy together.
The province has begun full-scale work on the Hongye Park premium project with the goal of completion in the first half of next year, and since the 1st of last month, access to the entire Hongye Park, except for part of Jamiwon, has been restricted.
