Public Authorities Complicit in Illegal Martial Law
The Constitutional Court Must Uphold Its Final Conscience
The Gwangju Emergency Action for Immediate Resignation of Yoon Suk-yeol Regime and Major Social Reform issued a statement on the 3rd, strongly urging, "The Constitutional Court must unanimously approve the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol with an 8-0 decision at the ruling on the 4th."

The group asserted, "There is only one thing that must be heard from the Constitutional Court at 11 a.m. tomorrow (the 4th): 'Order. The respondent, President Yoon Suk-yeol, is dismissed.' This is what 50 million people are united in wishing for, and it is something that must happen for the Republic of Korea."
They particularly criticized, "It is unbelievable that an illegal martial law was declared due to a praetorian coup in 21st-century Korea. The people were great, but the public authority and state institutions entrusted by the people were cowardly, and the Constitutional Court was not free from responsibility in this situation either."
In the statement, the Gwangju Emergency Action questioned the very reason for the Constitutional Court's existence, pointing out that the decision to approve the impeachment will be a test of the court's legitimacy and validity in the future. They emphasized that beyond the simple dismissal of the president, this decision will determine whether the Constitutional Court can regain the trust of the people.
They went on to say, "The people no longer trust the existing state power and are demanding a new system of popular sovereignty. An 8-0 unanimous decision is the minimum condition for uniting a divided Korea and is the last opportunity to uphold the Constitution."
The Gwangju Emergency Action added, "If the Constitutional Court cannot even do this, there is no reason for its existence. The Constitutional Court must follow the people's command. This is the command of the people and the final warning."
Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court is scheduled to deliver its final ruling on the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol at 11 a.m. on the 4th.
