Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon claimed that three measures, including the impeachment of Yoon Seok-yeol, are urgently needed to overcome the tariff wave from the Trump administration in the United States.
On the 3rd, Governor Kim posted on his social media (SNS), saying, "The Trump-led 'trade war' has finally begun," and added, "25%, a situation more serious than expected."
He continued, "The Korea-US FTA has essentially become a scrap of paper," and added, "For our country, which relies on exports, this is an unprecedented crisis."
In particular, he criticized, "I appointed an economic plenipotentiary ambassador, built an export breakwater, and even presented concrete measures," but "the government did not listen at all and only wasted time."
Therefore, he said, "We must do three things immediately," and "First, Yoon Seok-yeol must be impeached tomorrow without fail."
He especially diagnosed, "If the presidential impeachment is dismissed amid the Trump storm, who would invest in the Korean economy?" and called it "a catastrophe beyond imagination."
Furthermore, he said, "We must quickly appoint an 'economic plenipotentiary ambassador' through bipartisan agreement and implement an emergency supplementary budget for people's livelihood," adding, "This measure is based on the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) and can be revised, and a '50 trillion won super supplementary budget' should be used to revitalize the economic recession."
Governor Kim urged, "Additional interest rate cuts are also necessary," and emphasized, "We must first prevent corporate bankruptcies and the spread of financial insolvency following the tariff shock."
He then proposed, "Since this is an emergency economic situation, political uncertainty must be eliminated promptly," and suggested, "Let's achieve a major economic turnaround with a Rapid, Enough, Decisive (R.E.D) response strategy that is swift, sufficiently beyond necessity, and bold enough to break market expectations."
