The global voluntary carbon market is a market where voluntary carbon credits are traded regardless of legal regulations, and it is rapidly growing worldwide. SK Illek Link plans to receive voluntary carbon credits through global certification bodies.
SK Illek Link builds electric vehicle charging infrastructure so that electric vehicles replace internal combustion engine vehicles, reducing exhaust emissions from internal combustion engine vehicles and receiving carbon credits.
If profits arise from the carbon credit business, SK Illek Link will reinvest them in expanding charging infrastructure and improving service quality. The company plans to strengthen its position as a market leader by introducing a new business model linked to carbon credits.
SK Illek Link owns more than 4,800 fast chargers nationwide and has set a goal to secure 3.2 million tons of voluntary carbon credits by 2033 based on charging data starting from 2023. The 3.2 million tons of carbon credits is equivalent to the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed annually by more than 100 million trees.
An SK Illek Link official said, "It is very meaningful to carry out greenhouse gas reduction activities together with customers using charging facilities, enhancing ESG values while further raising customer-centered service levels and continuously leading the electric vehicle charging industry."
