On the 3rd, TIPA announced that President Kim visited the production plant of Koabis, a specialized automotive parts company. Koabis, established in 1994 and located in Sejong City, is an automotive parts manufacturer producing automotive fuel pumps, electric water pumps, and supplies parts to global companies such as GM, Hyundai Kia Motors, Volkswagen, and BMW.
Koabis is the first company confirmed under the Smart Factory Level Verification system selected by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and is also a company building a Metaverse Factory. Currently, it operates smart factories across all its production subsidiaries.
The Smart Factory Level Verification system is a program where a credible institution verifies the level of smart factory implementation when the private sector introduces or advances smart factories without government support. Koabis advanced its smart factory using its own funds and was selected in 2018 as the first company in Korea to receive smart factory level verification. Since then, through TIPA’s affiliated Smart Manufacturing Innovation Promotion Team’s 2021 smart factory construction and advancement project and the 2023 Metaverse Factory project, Koabis has achieved a 56% increase in productivity, a 20% reduction in factory equipment troubles, 0.3 seconds for real-time data monitoring, and 100% real-time data control.
President Kim visited Koabis’s production plant to inspect the smart factory production line established through the smart factory support project. He also held a meeting with Seong Yeon-gwan, CEO of Koabis, to listen to opinions on the smart factory support project and to check the progress of autonomous factory construction.
President Kim said, "Through Koabis’s growth, I was able to realize the importance of building and advancing smart factories," adding, "We will continue to actively communicate with companies and do our best to provide follow-up support for manufacturing innovation and sustainable growth of domestic manufacturing companies."
