Jungnang-gu Disinfects 20 Children's Sand Playgrounds

Creating a Clean Play Environment with Six Regular Disinfections Annually
Enhancing Hygiene and Safety Through High-Temperature Steam Sterilization and Testing for Heavy Metals and Parasite Eggs

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will conduct regular disinfection six times a year on 20 sand playgrounds (totaling 2,991.7㎡) within the district to ensure children can play safely.

Playing in the sand is an eco-friendly activity that helps develop the five senses, brain, and physical growth, and is also effective in enhancing creativity. However, if hygiene management is neglected, there is a risk of infectious diseases or skin conditions, so thorough management is necessary.

Accordingly, the district conducts systematic disinfection every year to protect children with weak immune systems from harmful substances and to create a clean and safe play environment.

This year, a total of six disinfections will be carried out mainly in spring and autumn, when outdoor activities are active, until October. So far, sand replenishment and the first disinfection have been completed.

The disinfection process involves turning over hardened sand, removing foreign substances, and spraying high-pressure steam from a high-temperature steam machine into the sand to sterilize bacteria and parasites.

In addition, tests for heavy metals and parasite eggs are conducted simultaneously through professional inspection agencies, and the results are disclosed to residents via notice boards in each park.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “Disinfecting sand playgrounds is an important task that goes beyond simple hygiene management to ensure children can play healthily and safely in spaces they frequently visit.” He added, “We will continue to manage and maintain clean facilities and prioritize the health and safety of children.”
