Full-scale Launch of the Nakdong River New-Wave Project
Creation of a Space Blending Nature, Tourism, and Leisure
Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province is set to launch the "Nakdong River New-Wave Project," which aims to create a multi-purpose leisure space blending ecology, culture, and recreation along the Nakdong River. A total of 16.9 billion KRW will be invested in this project, which began in 2023 and is scheduled for completion by 2026.
Among the seven designated waterfront districts selected in December last year, Gumi City has chosen the Gumibo District and Jisan District (Nakdong River Sports Park) as priority development areas. The city is implementing a systematic development plan to carry out the project in phases.
This initiative consists of three core projects: ▲ Creation of a Nakdong River themed space ▲ Establishment of the second Gumi Nakdong River campsite ▲ Construction of the Nakdong River River Breeze Trail.
The plan is to complete the themed space and campsite by 2025, and finish the River Breeze Trail by 2026, transforming the Nakdong River into a leading local healing destination.
In particular, the "Nakdong River Themed Space Project" focuses on creating an eco-friendly themed park by planting a variety of flowering plants in the area of 536-1 Imsudong.
Additionally, a new pedestrian bridge will be built to connect the previously disconnected Nakdong River waterfront trails, improving access to the water sports experience center and nearby tourist attractions.
The Gumi Nakdong River Second Campsite Project will respond to growing demand for camping by establishing an auto-camping site with 50 lots within the Nakdong River Sports Park, along with various amenities including family experience and children's sports facilities.
The Nakdong River River Breeze Trail Project is a large-scale initiative to create an approximately 80-kilometer circular trail along the riverbank. This will offer a unique opportunity to enjoy the Nakdong River's beautiful natural scenery while experiencing the region's history and culture.
Gumi City expects that, upon completion, the Nakdong River will be reborn as a multifunctional space that goes beyond a simple waterway, combining leisure, healing, and tourism. The expansion of ecotourism and leisure infrastructure is also anticipated to boost the local economy.
Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi, stated, "Through the Nakdong River New-Wave Project, we will create a nature-friendly and functional space that both citizens and visitors can enjoy," adding, "We will make the Nakdong River the representative tourist attraction of Gumi."
