On April 2, Mayor Park participated in the "Population Issue Awareness Improvement Relay Campaign," organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Human Resources Development Institute for Health and Welfare, and called for greater public attention to these issues.
Mayor Park added, "Gwangmyeong City will also take a more proactive approach to population issues and implement policies that can lead to real change."
This campaign is designed to raise awareness and promote social understanding of issues related to demographic changes, such as low birth rates and an aging population. Since October last year, it has been conducted in a relay format by government ministries, local governments, public institutions, and companies. Mayor Park joined the campaign after being nominated by Woo Seunghee, mayor of Yeongam County in South Jeolla Province.
The city has set forth its vision as "a happy and sustainable society for all generations," presenting three main goals: improving individual quality of life, fostering a gender-equal and fair society, and driving social innovation in response to demographic changes. This year, the city is investing 19.385 billion won of municipal funds to carry out 54 independent projects, including expanding the "Aijoa First Birthday Celebration Grant," providing entrance grants for new elementary, middle, and high school students, and subsidizing public transportation costs for children, youth, and seniors.
Meanwhile, Mayor Park nominated Kim Cheolwoo, mayor of Boseong County in South Jeolla Province, and Kim Changgyu, mayor of Jecheon City in North Chungcheong Province, as the next participants in the relay campaign.
