First Case of Chinese AI Large Language Model Used in International Relief Operations

Chinese rescue teams dispatched to the earthquake disaster site in Myanmar are reportedly using a platform based on the AI chatbot model DeepSeek to communicate locally, according to Chinese media outlets.
On the 2nd, China Central Television (CCTV), Fenghua Net, and other Chinese media reported that the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar stated, "A 'Chinese-Myanmar-English translation platform' urgently developed based on DeepSeek is being used at the earthquake site in central Myanmar."
CCTV reported that the "Language Service Support Team," quickly organized by the Secretariat of the National Emergency Language Service Corps and Beijing Language and Culture University, developed this platform using DeepSeek in just seven hours.
The National Emergency Language Service Corps is a public organization that provides language services such as minority languages, dialects, sign language, Braille, and foreign languages at various emergency sites requiring urgent care.
Currently used by over 700 people in Myanmar, this platform marks the first time China's large-scale AI language model has been applied in an international relief operation. CCTV emphasized, "The language barriers at the international relief site were overcome through the platform developed in just seven hours," adding, "This case demonstrates that language technology services can contribute to building a spirit of human community."
China was the first in the international community to dispatch rescue teams to Myanmar, where a magnitude 7.7 earthquake occurred on the 28th of last month, resulting in over 2,800 deaths, and is conducting rescue operations.At least three Chinese nationals were also reported dead and 14 injured due to this earthquake.
