Buan County to Crack Down on Illegal Activities in Forests During Spring Until Next Month

Inspection of Cooking Activities and Illegal Collection of Forest Products in Forests

Buan County, North Jeolla Province, will conduct a 'Spring Forest Illegal Activities Intensive Crackdown' until the 31st of next month.

According to the county on the 2nd, this crackdown has been initiated to prevent forest damage and the risk of wildfires caused by the collection of forest products, as the main season for forest product harvesting begins.

The county has organized five inspection teams composed of public officials, and in conjunction with wildfire patrols, will focus on cracking down on activities that cause wildfires in forests such as cooking, illegal digging and collection of forest products, and illegal logging, in order to protect valuable forest resources and prevent wildfires.

If illegal activities such as the unlawful collection of forest products are detected, violators may be subject to imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to 50 million KRW in accordance with relevant laws, and all forest products collected without permission will be confiscated.

A county official stated, “This is a time when it is necessary to raise public awareness about forest protection and establish social order. We will do our utmost to eradicate illegal activities in forests through active guidance, crackdowns, and strict enforcement of the law.”
