Jeollanam-do announced on the 2nd that it will conduct inspections for illegal recording devices, commonly known as "spy cams," at sports venues ahead of the 2025 National Sports Festival for All, which will be held in April.
This inspection aims to create a safe environment free from digital sexual crimes for athletes and spectators participating in the 2025 National Sports Festival for All. Jeollanam-do, relevant departments from 20 cities and counties, and local police stations will form a joint inspection team for this purpose.
Focusing on Mokpo, the main host city, inspections will be continuously conducted until the end of the festival on the 27th at convenience facilities (restrooms, changing rooms, showers, etc.) in 57 sports venues across 20 cities and counties to check for the installation of illegal recording devices.
The joint inspection team will use detection equipment such as radio frequency detectors, infrared detectors, and lens detectors, as well as thorough visual inspections, to ensure athletes and spectators can use the venues with peace of mind. If any illegal recording devices are found, safety measures will be taken immediately. In particular, inspections of vulnerable facilities will be strengthened, and warning stickers will be posted to raise awareness about illegal recording.
Yoo Hyunho, Director of the Jeollanam-do Tourism and Sports Bureau, said, "As the advancement of information technology leads to an increase in victims of digital sex crimes, preventive activities are more important than ever. We will continue regular inspections to block illegal recording crimes in advance and provide a safe environment for athletes and spectators at the venues."
Meanwhile, the 2025 National Sports Festival for All will be held from the 24th to the 27th, with around 20,000 participants from 17 cities and provinces across Korea and Japan, taking place at 57 sports venues in 20 cities and counties.
