Gwanak-gu Job-Seeking Youth Satisfaction at 99%... 100,000 Won Support for Language Test Fees

"While preparing for employment, the exam fees were a significant burden, but being able to reduce that burden and challenge the exams gave me strength in my job search," said a young person, A, from Gwanak-gu, who participated in last year's language and qualification exam fee support program, expressing great satisfaction.

This year, Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee), selected as the nation's first youth-friendly city, will support language and national qualification exam fees starting in April for unemployed youth who feel burdened by prolonged job search periods.

Since last year, the district has operated support programs to alleviate the economic burden on youth and enhance their employment competitiveness, supporting 680 young people, with 99% of participants expressing satisfaction, making the program very popular.

In fact, a satisfaction survey conducted from June to November last year among applicants showed that out of 187 respondents, 55 succeeded in finding employment, confirming that the program significantly helps youth in their job search.

Accordingly, this year the district will continue to support exam fees for unemployed youth and has expanded eligibility so that even those who received support in 2024 can apply again if they meet the criteria, providing more opportunities to take exams.

The support targets unemployed and non-registered business youth aged 19 to 39 (born 1985?2006) registered as residents in Gwanak-gu, with up to 100,000 KRW per person per year reimbursed.

The support covers exam fees actually paid this year for ▲language tests (TOEIC, OPIC, HSK, etc.) ▲Korean history ▲nationally certified qualification exams (national technical, national professional, nationally certified private) regardless of pass or fail. However, the program may close early if the budget is exhausted, and those currently receiving support through Seoul City Youth Allowance, National Employment Support System, or overlapping support from other local governments are excluded.

Applications open from April 1 and are accepted monthly from the 1st to the 10th. Interested youth can apply online on the Gwanak-gu Office website (Participation/Reservation → Participation Application → Administrative Reception) after taking the qualification exam and preparing supporting documents.

Gwanak-gu is promoting various youth employment support projects for stable local settlement, including ▲Gwanak Didimdol Youth Job Project ▲Interview Image Consulting ▲Comprehensive Employment Support Program ▲4th Industrial IT Youth Talent Development ▲Euddeum Gwanak Youth Savings Account Support.

Mayor Park Junhee said, "Through the language and qualification exam fee support program, I hope young people will not give up on opportunities they want due to economic reasons and achieve their dreams," adding, "As a youth-friendly city, Gwanak-gu will continue to listen to the voices of youth and actively discover practical support programs so that young people can dream of the future and challenge the dreams they desire."
