King Jung meets in Russia to discuss Ukraine... Scheduled to meet Putin

Wang Yi, Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission Office of the Chinese Communist Party (also serving as Foreign Minister), and Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, discussed the Ukraine issue and other matters during Wang's official visit to Russia.

According to major foreign media including TASS on the 1st (local time), the two foreign ministers held talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Reception House in Moscow, Russia, focusing on peace in Ukraine and the development of bilateral relations.


In his opening remarks, Director Wang emphasized, "We will work together to newly contribute to the cause of peace and the development of humanity."


Minister Lavrov said that in the context of preparing for a high-level meeting between the two countries, they discussed ways to build bilateral relations, stating, "The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping reaches an unprecedentedly high level and always gives special vitality to the development of bilateral relations, which continue to advance in all fields."


President Putin and President Xi have invited each other to the 80th anniversary commemorations of Russia's victory in World War II, to be held in Moscow on May 9, and China's victory in the Anti-Japanese War, to be held in Beijing on September 3.


Director Wang has been on a three-day official visit to Russia since the previous day. Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Director Wang would hold talks with Minister Lavrov to discuss bilateral relations, prospects for resolving the Ukraine crisis, and other international issues.


Director Wang is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Putin on the same day.


Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson, explained in a briefing that President Putin is scheduled to meet Director Wang at the Kremlin in the afternoon, describing Wang as a "longtime friend" and a key figure in the development of Russia-China relations.
