Via Uiwang Tollgate... Transfers Available to Gangnam Area
Six Eco-friendly Hydrogen Electric Buses Deployed, Drawing Attention
The '5503' metropolitan bus route connecting the western area of Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do, and Sadang Station in Seoul was launched on the 1st.
On this day, Pyeongtaek City held an opening ceremony for the 5503 metropolitan bus in front of Anjung Gymnasium, attended by about 120 people including local members of the National Assembly, provincial and city council members, and residents.
On the 1st, attendees celebrated the launch of the '5503' express bus route running between Pyeongtaek Anjung and Sadang Station. Provided by Pyeongtaek City
This bus route starts from Anjung Terminal and passes through Hyeonhwa District, Cheongbuk New Town, and Uiwang Tollgate before reaching Sadang Station. It operates 18 times a day on weekdays. At Uiwang Tollgate, passengers can transfer to routes heading toward Gangnam Station, Jamsil Transfer Center, Yangjae Station, and Gyodae Station.
This route is the seventh longest among metropolitan bus routes in Gyeonggi-do, with a distance of 50.3 km from the city hall to Sadang Station. According to relevant laws, the operating distance of metropolitan buses entering large metropolitan areas such as Seoul is limited to within 50 km. However, the city continuously petitioned the government for the necessity of establishing this route, and the route was approved by the Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee in June last year, leading to its launch.
The city expects that this launch will alleviate the inconvenience of residents in the western area who previously had to use intercity buses or travel to Pyeongtaek Station to commute to Seoul by rail.
Another notable feature of this route is the deployment of six demand-responsive hydrogen fuel cell buses. This is the first case of hydrogen vehicles being introduced to Pyeongtaek City's metropolitan buses. These vehicles will be charged at the Pyeongtaek Port Hydrogen Transportation Complex Base.
Jung Jang-seon, mayor of Pyeongtaek City, said, "The launch of this metropolitan bus will enhance the mobility convenience of citizens in the western area," adding, "We will continue to make various efforts to expand public transportation services in the western area."
