City Aims to Strengthen AI Semiconductor Value Chain and Support Corporate Growth

Globally recognized semiconductor design company (fabless company) FuriosaAI and Korea's No. 1 server supplier Eslim Korea are joining forces with Gwangju City to drive the growth of the artificial intelligence (AI) industry.
With FuriosaAI, which develops and mass-produces inference neural processing units (NPUs), joining the city along with NVIDIA's H100 graphic processing units (GPUs) owned by the National AI Data Center, Gwangju expects the value chain of the AI semiconductor industry to become even more robust.
On the 1st, Gwangju City signed the "Gwangju-type Artificial Intelligence (AI) Business Agreement" with FuriosaAI and Eslim Korea at the city hall business room. The signing ceremony was attended by Mayor Kang Gijung, FuriosaAI CEO Baek Junho, Eslim Korea CEO Yoon Youngtae, Osangjin, Head of the AI Business Convergence Division, and Kang Hyeonseo, Director of the Honam Regional Research Center at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute.
Under the agreement, FuriosaAI and Eslim Korea will participate in Gwangju's AI and semiconductor industry ecosystem, cooperating in product development and infrastructure expansion, while the city will actively support the companies' technology development and business growth.
The city aims to build a world-class AI semiconductor industry ecosystem through collaboration with these companies. In particular, by combining domestic semiconductor hardware and software, Gwangju expects to secure stable AI semiconductor supply and reduce costs in a market heavily dependent on overseas players like NVIDIA, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of local industries.
