The private investment section of the Metropolitan Area Express Railway (GTX) Line B has entered the construction commencement phase. The project operator is expected to begin on-site work as early as the end of May.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 1st, "We have received the construction commencement report for the private investment sections from Incheon National University Entrance to Yongsan (40 km) and Sangbong to Maseok (23 km) on the 31st of last month, marking the start of full-scale construction preparations." The project cost for this section is 4.2894 trillion KRW (based on constant prices at the end of 2020).

After completing the permit procedures such as road and park occupancy agreements in consultation with local governments, the project operator will begin on-site work such as relocating obstacles and installing fences as early as next month. Obstacles refer to existing facilities such as warehouses, trees, and crops that interfere with the construction section.

GTX Line B connects Incheon National University Entrance to Maseok over a distance of 82.8 km. Among this, the Yongsan to Sangbong section (20 km), funded by national finances (2.7774 trillion KRW), has already started construction in segments.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport stated, "We plan to thoroughly manage permit procedures and progress to ensure the GTX-B project proceeds without any setbacks."
