Promotion as a Major Attraction... 15.9 Billion KRW to Be Invested by 2027
Four Themed Gardens and Twelve Zones to Be Created
Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province is significantly expanding and renovating the region's representative tourist attraction, the 'Lotus Theme Park.'
On the 1st, Kim Ik-gyeom, Director of the Siheung Agricultural Technology Center, announced the 'Lotus Theme Park Attraction Promotion Plan' centered on this content during a press briefing.
This plan comes as the Lotus Theme Park, which opened in 2007 to preserve Gwankokji Pond in Hajung-dong 224-1, the origin of lotus cultivation, has recently faced difficulties such as a decline in visitors, leading to a decision to improve tourism conditions. To this end, the city plans to invest 15.9 billion KRW over three years from this year through 2027.
The city will first expand the park area significantly from the current 36,000㎡ to 96,000㎡. To expand the site, the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) will proceed with land compensation within this year. The city expects that approximately 11.8 billion KRW will be required for land acquisition.
The newly developed park will be created as a complex cultural space that incorporates history, culture, and ecology into its story. To achieve this, the planting areas will highlight the traditional aspects of Gwankokji Pond and the unique characteristics of the lotus, forming four themed gardens?▲Specialized Garden ▲Fun Garden ▲Healing Garden ▲Historical Garden?and 12 zones.
Around the planting areas, rest spaces themed on lotus, such as resting shelters and hydrangea fences, will be provided. For visitor convenience, facilities such as ▲mist sprayers (for heatwaves) ▲heated shelters (for cold waves) ▲pavilions ▲plazas ▲parking lots will be installed. The city also plans to operate seasonal programs that reflect the ecological and historical values of nature along with the spatial improvements.
The park will include an 8,055㎡ 'Lotus Root Harvesting Experience Area' and a 5,148㎡ parking lot with 134 spaces.
Director Kim said, "Through this project, we will do our best to establish the Lotus Theme Park as a key tourist attraction in Siheung City that creates new cultural and historical value."
