Honam University announced on the 1st that the Department of Nursing (headed by Ha Yoonju) will officially begin the activities of the 3rd class of "Gamja Supporters," an infectious disease prevention supporter group organized by the Gwangsan-gu Public Health Center.
The launching ceremony, held on May 31 at the Gwangsan-gu Public Health Center, was attended by nursing students from local universities, including Honam University, Gwangju Women's University, Nambu University, and Gwangju Health University.
"Gamja Supporters," meaning "freedom from infectious diseases," is a project that has been running since 2022 to foster an effective culture of infectious disease prevention by utilizing the creative ideas and social networking service skills of the younger generation.
After the launching ceremony, the supporters plan to use social networking services (SNS) to promote information about the Gwangsan-gu Public Health Center's programs and infectious disease prevention to citizens. They aim to raise awareness and actively encourage the practice of prevention guidelines for various infectious diseases, including ticks, AIDS, Mpox (monkeypox), and measles, which has recently been imported from overseas.
Meanwhile, the Department of Nursing at Honam University has been recognized for its achievements in community infectious disease prevention, starting with the 1st class of supporters in 2022 and receiving the Grand Prize and Excellence Award at the 2nd class supporters' achievement report in 2024.
