Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra's 'Ancient Egypt' Themed After-Work Concert at LG Arts Center

The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (Seoul Philharmonic) will hold a "Commute Concert" themed "Ancient Egypt Awakens Through Music" at 7 p.m. on the 4th at the LG Arts Center Seoul Signature (SIGNATURE) Hall.

The Seoul Philharmonic and LG Arts Center have presented Commute Concerts together with themes such as "Poetry" in 2022, "Classical Suites" in 2023, and "Film Music" in 2024.

This 75-minute performance without intermission begins with film music by John Williams. The first piece performed is "Raiders March" from the movie "Indiana Jones," followed by an orchestral medley from the Disney animation 'The Prince of Egypt' by American musical composer Stephen Schwartz. Next, Verdi's opera "Aida" pieces "Triumphal March" and "Ballet Music," composed to commemorate the opening of the Suez Canal, are performed, along with Philip Glass's opera "Akhnaten" pieces "City" and "Dance," celebrating the completion of the new city Akhetaten built under the Pharaoh's orders and the capital relocation.

In the second half, Mozart's "The Magic Flute" overture is performed, along with the Queen of the Night's aria "The vengeance of hell boils in my heart," sung by soprano Choi Young-won, who won the grand prize at last year's National Opera Company Vocal Competition.

The final piece is a suite from the game music composer Sarah Schachner's "Assassin's Creed Origins" soundtrack. The "Assassin's Creed Origins" soundtrack suite includes a total of seven pieces, including the main theme.

The conductor is Kim Yoo-won, a conductor from the MZ generation who recently led the stage of "SM Classics Live 2025 with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra."

Additionally, Kwak Min-su, director of the Korean Egyptology Research Institute, will provide an exciting commentary on the brilliant Egyptian civilization and heritage from 3,500 years ago. Director Kwak is a leading researcher in Egyptology archaeology in Korea. He majored in cultural anthropology at Hanyang University, earned master's degrees in archaeology and Egyptology from the University of London and the University of Oxford respectively, completed a doctoral course in Egyptology at Durham University, and has appeared on broadcasts such as EBS "Classⓔ" and JTBC "Tokpawon 25si."

Tickets for the performance can be purchased at LG Arts Center Seoul and Interpark. A 50% discount is available for one accompanying person with a disabled person (severe, grades 1-3) for up to two tickets, and a 30% discount is available for disabled persons (mild, grades 4-6) and national veterans for themselves only.
