Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, visited the site of the pipe greenhouse accident submerged by water from the irrigation canal flowing out of the Jukrim Reservoir in Jangseong on the morning of the 30th to inspect the damage and ordered prompt restoration.
Constructed in 1958, the Jukrim Reservoir supplies agricultural water to 97 hectares in the Jukrim-ri area of Samgye-myeon, Jangseong, and has a total storage capacity of 369,000 cubic meters.
In the early morning of that day, a large amount of water from the reservoir's irrigation pipeline flowed into the greenhouses, causing damage as nine greenhouses (5,346 square meters of passion fruit cultivation facilities) were submerged up to a height of 40 centimeters.
In response, three excavators were urgently deployed to create a waterway toward the river, draining most of the water from inside the greenhouses.
Korea Rural Community Corporation plans to release all the agricultural water from the Jukrim Reservoir, identify the exact cause of the accident, and proceed with restoration work on the facilities.
While inspecting the Jukrim Reservoir site and the damaged greenhouses, Governor Kim Youngrok stated, "It is best if accidents do not occur, but it is important to respond well when they do. Please provide sufficient support to the affected farmers, promptly restore the damaged facilities, and secure reservoir water so that rice planting and other spring farming activities are not disrupted."
Jeollanam-do, Jangseong County, and Korea Rural Community Corporation plan to cooperate with each other to handle the aftermath of the accident, prevent recurrence, and strive to provide a safe farming environment for residents.
