"I Couldn't Just Stand By"... The Place Baek Jong-won Rushed to After His '90-Degree Apology'

Providing Free Meals to Wildfire Victims

Baek Jong-won, CEO of The Born Korea, visited Andong City, which suffered from a large-scale wildfire, to provide free meals to disaster victims.


According to Andong City on the 28th, upon hearing the news of the wildfire damage in Andong, CEO Baek immediately dispatched his staff to assess the damage and the difficulties faced by the disaster victims. He then set up a cooking facility at Gilan Middle School for free meal service. CEO Baek's free meal center is scheduled to operate from that day until next week. The Born Korea is preparing and providing more than 300 meals per meal on-site not only for the disaster victims but also for military, police, and firefighting personnel involved in wildfire suppression efforts. Additionally, meals are delivered to personnel who find it difficult to visit the free meal center. On that day, CEO Baek personally visited Andong to comfort the disaster victims and personally cooked and served meals on-site.

CEO Baek said, "After hearing that the citizens of Andong, with whom The Born Korea has a deep connection, were affected by the wildfire, I could not just stand by," adding, "I hope that a warm meal, given with a small sincerity, can offer some comfort to the disaster victims who have lost their homes and are facing hardships due to this wildfire."


The connection between CEO Baek and Andong City was established last August through the '2024 Andong International Mask Dance Festival.' At that time, The Born Korea signed a 'Public-Private Cooperation Regional Win-Win Agreement' and jointly promoted this event as their first collaborative stage, attracting a record-breaking 1.48 million tourists.


Earlier, on the 26th, CEO Baek also donated 100 million won to support wildfire damage relief in the Yeongnam region.


Meanwhile, on the 28th, at The Born Korea's first regular shareholders' meeting after its listing, CEO Baek bowed his head, saying, "As a manager, I deeply regret not managing more thoroughly." He stated, "Despite the best performance since our founding, I sincerely apologize for causing concern and disappointment to shareholders due to recent issues such as false origin labeling." He emphasized, "We will strengthen the origin management system, cooperate with external experts to increase transparency, and establish an effective internal monitoring system."


Recently, The Born Korea has been embroiled in several controversies, including false origin labeling, insufficient product content, and the Baek Ham price controversy. CEO Baek said, "The first shareholders' meeting should have been a celebration, but it was not, and I apologize to the shareholders," adding, "We will work hard again to build an organization that meets the scale you expect."
