Yeongju City to Strengthen Public Awareness and Response to Wildfires

Preemptive Measures Including Evacuation Plans, Advance Inspections, and Distribution of Guidance Notices

Yeongju City announced on the 28th that it is strengthening its publicity and response system to ensure citizen safety in response to the recent large-scale wildfires that have occurred in the Gyeongbuk region.

The wildfire that broke out in Uiseong on the 22nd has rapidly spread to areas such as Andong, Cheongsong, and Yeongdeok due to strong winds and dry weather, causing extensive damage. The impact of the smoke has reached as far as Yeongju City, increasing anxiety among citizens.

In response, the city has deployed additional monitoring personnel and strengthened patrols, especially in areas adjacent to Andong and Yecheon such as Pyeongeun-myeon, Munsu-myeon, Jangsu-myeon, and Isan-myeon. The city is also maintaining a cooperative system with relevant agencies to ensure a prompt response in case of emergency.

In particular, the city is taking various preemptive measures such as designating evacuation sites, establishing transportation support plans, and distributing evacuation guidance so that citizens can act in an orderly manner without confusion in the event of a wildfire evacuation order.

The city is also actively promoting the important things citizens must know before evacuation and the basic items to prepare when evacuating.

Before evacuating, it is important to turn off electricity and gas, store valuables in a safe place, and inform family or neighbors about the evacuation. Regularly checking disaster text messages, village broadcasts, and public announcements sent by the local government is also very helpful for safety.

Citizens are also encouraged to prepare an 'emergency bag' in case of urgent situations. The emergency bag should include identification, cash and cards, simple food items, any regular medication and first aid supplies, mobile phone and spare battery, toiletries, and warm clothing to save valuable time and minimize inconvenience during evacuation.

A Yeongju City official stated, "We are responding in real time to the wildfire situation with the safety of our citizens as our top priority," and urged, "Quick evacuation and orderly cooperation are more important than anything else in the event of a disaster."
