The voices calling for the impeachment of President Yoon Sukyeol are gradually spreading. In particular, in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, regional and local council members belonging to the Democratic Party of Korea have staged a head-shaving protest, strongly demanding that the Constitutional Court deliver a ruling to impeach President Yoon.
Kim Kangheon, Chairman of the Yeonggwang County Council, Park Wonjong, member of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Council, Jang Youngjin, member of the Yeonggwang County Council, and Lim Youngmin, member of the Yeonggwang County Council, all affiliated with the Yeonggwang Regional Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea, held a head-shaving ceremony at 3:30 p.m. on the steps in front of the Yeonggwang County Council on the 27th, chanting the slogan, "Dismiss Yoon Sukyeol, the ringleader of insurrection."
After shaving their heads, they issued a statement expressing, "We regret the Constitutional Court's decision that the failure to appoint Constitutional Court judges does not constitute a serious enough reason for dismissal," and added, "We strongly condemn the Constitutional Court's grave mistake in breaking the first-in, first-out principle of reviewing cases in the order received, by proceeding with the ruling on Prime Minister Han Ducksoo before that of Yoon Sukyeol."
They continued, "Using the dismissal of the impeachment of Prime Minister Han Ducksoo as an excuse, fanatical behaviors defending Yoon Sukyeol's unconstitutional, illegal martial law and demanding dismissal are becoming rampant," and emphasized, "The reality in Korea, where Yoon Sukyeol is destroying constitutional order and democracy and driving the people's economy to disaster, is a sign of national misfortune and a grim omen of social collapse."
They further stated, "In order to quickly clear away the dark clouds hanging over Korea and turn signs of catastrophe into hope, Yoon Sukyeol must be judged as soon as possible," and asserted, "Without a clear conclusion of reward and punishment, and good triumphing over evil, Korea cannot escape the nightmare of the December 3 insurrection and martial law. The Constitutional Court must make a decision on this clear and evident case."
They also said, "We hope it is not overlooked that state institutions are entrusted with the authority of the people, who are the true owners of the democratic republic," and added, "Now, only the Constitutional Court remains to restore democratic constitutional order. The Constitutional Court must promptly notify the date for Yoon Sukyeol's impeachment ruling and complete the ruling. The most important order the people must hear before April is the dismissal of the respondent, Yoon Sukyeol. There is no alternative."
