Gwangjin-gu Strengthens Support for 2025 Reading Clubs... Operates Space Sharing, Mentoring, and Leadership Training

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will carry out a year-round project to revitalize reading clubs to spread the reading culture within the district.

The support targets are reading clubs registered on the Gwangjin-gu Public Library 'Club Platform.' It provides necessary spaces and infrastructure to help make reading a part of daily life. Clubs with at least 8 members, where over 70% reside or work in Gwangjin-gu and meet at least twice a month, can register anytime through the Gwangjin-gu Public Library website.

Club members can choose from various private and public facilities participating in the project as 'space-sharing facilities,' such as local cafes, small libraries, cooperatives, and rental spaces. This allows meetings to be held freely and comfortably without burden. A mobile community is operated to assist with space matching.

Various programs can also be applied for and used to conduct substantial reading activities, such as author invitation lectures, reading sessions, book concerts, and reading discussion education, all centered around books. Newly formed clubs or those needing support can request the dispatch of a 'Reading Leader' to receive advice on management.

Last year, the district supported a total of 477 meetings for 29 clubs using 13 spaces. The plan is to continuously increase the number of space-sharing facilities and support more clubs.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "We are conducting a space support project so that anyone who loves books can gather in nearby and comfortable spaces to engage in reading club activities. We ask for the residents' active interest and participation," adding, "We will continue to discover and implement various reading-friendly policies to establish a culture of reading in the local community."

Eight public libraries in the district will hold various events throughout April in celebration of the 3rd Library Day on April 12, including ▲ Outdoor market of local independent bookstores (Guui 3-dong Library) ▲ Distribution of back issues of magazines (Achasan Forest Library) ▲ Meeting with author Hwang Sun-yeop (Junggok Cultural and Sports Center Library). Detailed information and participation applications can be found on each library's website under the participation section.
