Archbishop Jeong Soon-taek, the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul, expressed his condolences regarding the nationwide increase in large-scale wildfire damage, stating, “I pray that the Lord’s comfort and healing hands be with all those who have lost their homes and suffered damage.”

Regarding the victims, he added, “I pray for the eternal rest of all souls who perished in this unexpected disaster.”


Furthermore, Archbishop Jeong conveyed, “I extend my deep gratitude to the forestry officials, firefighters, and firefighting personnel working hard to extinguish the wildfires, as well as to everyone else who has stepped forward to support the recovery of the affected areas,” and “I ask that special care be taken to ensure the safety of all those who are struggling at the disaster sites even at this moment, and to prevent any further loss of life.”


Finally, Archbishop Jeong expressed, “I earnestly hope that the wildfires will be extinguished as soon as possible so that the residents suffering from the disaster can regain their daily lives and fully recover,” and said, “Our Archdiocese of Seoul will also do its best to find practical ways to stand in solidarity and accompany the recovery journey.”


The Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul is launching support efforts for wildfire damage recovery. The Archdiocesan One Heart One Body Movement Headquarters is conducting an “Emergency Relief Fundraising for Wildfire Damage” until April 30, raising a fund of 200 million KRW. The funds will be delivered to the Andong Diocese, which has been most severely affected, among others. Additionally, the (Foundation) Baboeui Nanum is also raising an emergency relief fund of 100 million KRW, which will be distributed through the dioceses and local social welfare organizations in the affected areas.


Donations can be made through the official websites of the One Heart One Body Movement Headquarters and Baboeui Nanum, respectively.
