11 K-Startups Target Emerging Giant Market 'Indo'

Participation in India's Largest Innovation Exhibition 'Startup Mahakumbh 2025'
Supported by the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development announced on the 27th that they will participate in the ‘Startup Mahakumbh 2025’ held in New Delhi, India, along with 11 promising domestic startup companies.

Startup Mahakumbh is a large-scale startup exhibition hosted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and is being held for the second time this year. The inaugural event last year saw participation from numerous government officials including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, and the Minister of State, achieving great success with over 1,300 exhibiting companies, 392 speakers, and more than 48,000 visitors.

This participation was made possible through a proposal from the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, which attended Korea’s largest global startup festival ‘Comeup 2024’ last year. The Ministry emphasized that Startup Mahakumbh represents innovation and entrepreneurship in India and actively encouraged the participation of promising Korean startups.

This year’s event will be held under the theme ‘Startup India@2047 - Opening a New Chapter for Bharat,’ expecting participation from approximately 3,000 exhibiting companies, 2,000 investors, 400 speakers, and up to 50,000 visitors.

India is currently the world’s 5th largest economy and its startup ecosystem is rapidly developing. It is also the country with the third largest number of unicorns globally, following the United States and China.

The Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development completed the selection of 11 companies in March based on their readiness for global expansion and growth potential, then proceeded with exhibition marketing strategy development, local market and cultural education, and business matching demand surveys. During the exhibition, a ‘K-Startup Pavilion’ will be established to provide close support on-site for effective company promotion, active partner acquisition, and business consultations.

Refeed, a specialized collection company certified for the purity of waste cooking oil, has completed the establishment of its Indian corporation aiming to enter the Asian market where cooking oil is heavily used. Refeed plans to secure potential clients such as refineries and oil companies through this exhibition. Tesser, a company producing AI solutions for hospitals, has launched a mobile app in India with about 45,000 users. Tesser also aims to discover partners for technology verification (PoC) within India through the exhibition.

Yoo Jong-pil, President of the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development, said, “India is regarded as a strategic market attracting global capital along with its rapidly growing economy. We will lay the foundation for domestic startups to successfully establish themselves in the Indian market, which has so far been dominated by large corporations.”
