President Yoon Excluded... Asset Declaration Postponed Due to Detention [2025 Asset Disclosure]

Asset Changes to Be Disclosed During Future Irregular Asset Reports

President Yoon Suk-yeol was excluded from this year's regular asset disclosure list for high-ranking public officials due to detention related to an investigation on charges of insurrection. This marks the first time since the introduction of the public officials' asset disclosure system in 1993 that a sitting president has been excluded from the regular disclosure.

The '2025 Regular Asset Changes of High-Ranking Public Officials,' published on the 27th through the official government gazette by the Government Officials Ethics Committee, included asset reports of 54 out of 55 senior officials affiliated with the Presidential Office, excluding President Yoon.

An official from the Ministry of Personnel Management explained at a press briefing that "Article 6-3, Paragraph 2 of the Public Officials Ethics Act allows for deferral or exemption of regular asset change reporting in unavoidable cases," adding, "This applies to those who are detained, ill, or missing."

He continued, "President Yoon was in detention from January 15 to March 8, making it impossible for him to file the regular asset change report for the period from January 1 to February 28, so he applied for a deferral, which was granted this time. Once the reason is resolved, the report must be submitted within two months; since his detention was lifted on March 8, he must file by June 1." President Yoon's asset changes will be disclosed during future irregular asset disclosures.
