Lawmakers Head to Their Constituencies

On the 26th, members of the People Power Party announced that they would temporarily suspend the relay press conferences calling for the dismissal and rejection of President Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment, which had been held in front of the Constitutional Court. This decision was made in consideration of the severity of the wildfires that have been ongoing for five days in the Gyeongbuk region.

Park Dae-chul, a member of the People Power Party, said in front of the Constitutional Court on the morning of the same day, "As the wildfires spread nationwide, public concern has grown, reaching a very serious stage," adding, "We have decided to temporarily suspend the daily press conferences held by lawmakers in front of the Constitutional Court."

Lawmakers representing Daegu, Gyeongbuk, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam plan to focus on wildfire damage recovery efforts on site. Park said, "Each lawmaker will go down to their respective constituencies to check on the inconveniences faced by disaster victims and visit the sites to support wildfire prevention and firefighting activities," adding, "The People Power Party will fulfill its duty as a party that prioritizes the people's livelihood."

Lee Man-hee, a member of the People Power Party, expressed concern, saying, "The severity of the wildfires spreading mainly in the Yeongnam region is truly great," and added, "Although the firefighting and administrative authorities are making efforts to extinguish the fires, it is quite insufficient."

He continued, "The most important issue is safety," and requested, "Please cooperate without exception in evacuating to safe places according to the instructions of the administrative authorities."

Earlier, Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, urged party members in a group chat to make every effort to alleviate residents' anxiety caused by the wildfires and to manage public sentiment. The party also announced that it would immediately activate a special committee on wildfire disasters at the party level.
