Full-Scale Efforts to Attract the Center in Cooperation with the County Council
Emphasizing Optimal Location for Nature, Transportation, and Balanced Development
Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province is making every effort to attract the ‘Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Legislative Training Center’ in cooperation with the county council. Emphasizing that Gapyeong-gun is the optimal location due to its excellent educational environment and the balanced development of northeastern Gyeonggi Province, the county began full-scale efforts to attract the center starting from the 24th.
According to Gapyeong-gun on the 25th, the county highlights strengths such as △clean natural environment and excellent educational infrastructure △geographical advantages with outstanding accessibility including transportation △contribution to the balanced development of northeastern Gyeonggi Province. Considering that it is a border area and a region experiencing population decline, which has been subject to various development restrictions, the county holds the position that attracting this training center is essential for revitalizing the local economy and for the decentralized placement of public institutions.
The Gapyeong County Council also lent its support. On the 24th, the council adopted a ‘Resolution to Urge the Attraction of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Legislative Training Center to Gapyeong-gun’ at a special session.
In the resolution, the council stated, “Gapyeong-gun is a region experiencing population decline and is at a critical point requiring a groundbreaking turning point to restore local vitality,” adding, “The attraction of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Legislative Training Center to Gapyeong-gun will be a new turning point for regional development, and Gapyeong-gun’s pristine natural environment and excellent educational infrastructure make it the optimal choice that aligns with the operational purpose of the legislative training center.”
Gapyeong-gun will hold the launch ceremony of the ‘Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Legislative Training Center Pan-Citizen Attraction Promotion Group’ on the 31st and will embark on more systematic attraction activities. Centered on the promotion group, the county plans to actively promote the necessity of attracting the training center in cooperation with local members of the National Assembly, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly members, and heads of institutions and organizations.
County Governor Seo Tae-won emphasized, “Gapyeong-gun has the optimal conditions as the site for the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Legislative Training Center in terms of natural environment, accessibility, and balanced development,” adding, “Considering the balanced development of Gyeonggi Province and the decentralized placement of public institutions, Gapyeong-gun will be the most suitable choice as the location for the legislative training center.”
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Legislative Training Center is scheduled to be completed by July 2030, to be built on a site of 40,000 to 100,000㎡ with a total floor area of 20,265㎡. The call for candidate sites will be held until the 31st of this month, and Gapyeong-gun has selected Seungan-ri, Gapyeong-eup (around the Yeonin Mountain Provincial Park Management Office) as the site to compete for the attraction.
