Seosan City, Chungnam Province, announced that it held a preemptive education session on fire blight prevention for local apple and pear farmers on the 24th.

The training, held at the Seosan Agricultural Technology Center, was attended by Mayor Lee Wan-seop and about 100 local farmers.

Fire blight causes the leaves, flowers, branches, and fruits of fruit trees to wither and turn black as if burned, and since there is no cure, prevention is extremely important.

According to the city, since the first outbreak in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province in 2015, fire blight has continued to occur nationwide. This year, cases have been reported in nearby areas such as Cheonan, Asan, and Dangjin in Chungnam, requiring extra caution.

During the session, the city provided farmers with information on the characteristics of fire blight, cultivation techniques for high-quality apple production, pesticide application methods, and compliance requirements for farms.

Additionally, three types of fire blight control agents and three types of orchard pest control agents were distributed free of charge to enhance prevention efforts.

Mayor Lee Wan-seop stated, "Since prevention is the most important aspect of fire blight management, active participation from farmers in disease control is necessary. I hope everyone will follow the prevention guidelines so that this year can be a record harvest."

Meanwhile, the city has promoted fire blight prevention by putting up banners, broadcasting announcements in towns and villages, and conducting farm inspections.
